How do you get from Alsace to the Black Forest cheap?
We're flying into Strasbourg for a 2-week trip to France in September.. We don't take guided tours, so our itinerary is open. We want to make a day trip to the Black Forest for some hiking. What is the cheapest way to get there? What are good alsatian cities to connect from and good german cities to connect to? Btw, we're travelling with our 4 young children, though we don't plan our trips around kid-oriented stuff. They can hike up to 10 miles in a day.
This should have been posted in Travel>Germany section. You can catch the Bahn (German train system) from Strasbourg to various cities in the Black Forest. You can get to Appenweier cheap (<50E), but strangely Offenburg is pricy (<100E). Baden-Baden is a little further away, but also reasonable (~50E).
