Hiking with guided tours in Hawaii?

Hi all,

I would like some recommendations from hikers familiar with Hawaii:

I am going to be there in December, and I will do mostly hiking. There are some hikes that travel guides mention to be quite hard, for example:

- Mount Olomana in Oahu
- Napau crater trail in the Big Island

I would love to go there, and I am in a very good physical condition but I am a bit cautious as I am not familiar with Hawaii's land, I will be totally alone in Hawaii, and every friend and relative of mine is on the other side of the planet, so if something bad happens, I'm screwed.

So, I thought about taking a guided tour. Are there any companies/individuals who can arrange some serious hiking for example in the places above?

To start off I've included a link to hawaiiactivities.com they have many guided hiking tours, though they don't likely include ropes (which I'm guessing is what you want) but its a good start and should have some you'll find fun

There is also a link to Rock Climbing Hawaii which is a great climbing group, they may have info on tours and guided hikes/climbs

Maui Hiking Safari's seems to have some good tours that I think you might enjoy too!

As you say you will be alone, you don't know the landscape so I urge you to please not go on extensive hikes alone. there are lots of easy/simple hiking paths in HI but if you're looking for a challenge, DO go with a tour
