3days in Perth, Perth Ambassador hotel?

Just booked a trip to Perth 21-25May,2010. I am bring my mom & aunt for a short Trip.

Noted that most shop are close at 6pm. What are the places we could visit around the hotel?
What are the food we must try when in Perth? The location of this hotel isn't very good & the review also not so good. However this is booked through the travel agency, so no choice.

Just need some guide of what to see, to do, to eat around the hotel in evening time (4pm onwards)?
thks for your reply.
We are Malaysian. My sis have booked this 3 days group tour trip and mostly half day tour.

That's why, I am try to figure out anything to see, to do and to shop around the Hotel in the evening time. My mom & aunt are both old lady, I am try not to tired them out.

Are cab fare expensive? Are the casino worth for a visit? We are here like to try to local food with the cheaper fare, of cos.

By the way the sugguestion given is very good though.

The Perth Mint is worth a visit, all WA gold is refined there and souvenirs are available.
Free Cat buses travel around the city, different colours for different routes, each stop tells you when next bus due.
Ferries operate to Fremantle [port city] excellent variety of food at E Shed from many countries, plenty of cheap souvenirs, cards etc.
Ferry to Perth Zoo at South Perth.
Ferries to wineries up river with commentary, Sun River Cruises are the best and cheapest, the Captains are always very entertaining explaining high lights along the river.
Casino is gr8 place to visit, short taxi ride from the Ambassador.
Kings Park gives many views over Perth and Swan/Canning River, can eat at Kings Pk but expensive.
Koala Park is further out but worth a visit and you can have your pic taken holding one. Fast train service to Mandurah, tourist precinct, many estuary cruises around the beautiful homes, cheap eating there along foreshore. Enjoy your stay.
