A lot of people will be going to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Everyone knows South Africa has a lot of crime. Is there a guide that could help to avoid some of the dangers?
common sense! that should be a good enough guide. Yes South Africa can be dangerous if you are ignorant and don't watch out. I live in S.A and here are good tips for a traveler: 1) stay awake,pay attention to your surroundings if you see something dodgy..leave. 2) don't travel around the streets at night,especially walking. 3) Don't take a taxi...ever! cabs are you best bet,more expensive but much safer. 4) don't keep a lot of cash on you. chances are nothing will happen to you,the crime is bad but nothing will happen if you stay sharp and are aware all the time and don't do stupid stuff.I wouldn't worry to much about it,as long as you follow the basics of traveling in a foreign country you'll be fine.
