Rio Travel Guide

Trip to South America- Peru, Brazil, Bolivia?

Planning to travel from NYC to SAmerica- itinerary for 2 weeks looks like this-
Cuzco, Sacred Valley, Machu Pichu, 3d/2n jungle lodge, Nazca Lines, Rio, Iguazu Falls in Brazil, 3d/2n in Uyuni. Looking for 4star accomodations, and will be travelling with a travel company so will have a tour guide etc. Any idea how much it would cost?

If you arrange everything down there, you'll do a lot better on prices, and I'll give my estimates based on that.
1. Airfare JFK-LIM one way, peak season: $700
1a. Nazca Lines, including transport from Lima in bus, hotel, scenic flight and meals: $200
2. Lim-CUZ airfare - one way (better if you go from Cuzco to Bolivia to do Uyuni, then to Brazil) $70
3. Cuzco, with 4* hotels, meals and sightseeing, 3 nights $400
4. Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley, two nights with sightseeing and meals $400
5. Jungle Lodge (Manu, close to Cuzco) $300
6. Airfare Cuzco-Juliaca one way $50
7. Car from Juliaca to La Paz, Bolivia, via Puno and Copacabana $100
8. Hotels in La Paz, two nights, plus local sightseeing and meals $200
9. Uyuni tour and back to La Paz $350
10. Airfare La Paz to Rio or Sao Paolo, one way (estimate) $500
11. Airfare r/t Foz do Iguazu $450
12. Tours, hotels and meals 2 nights in Iguazu $400
13. Airfare one way Rio or Sao Paolo to JFK - $700

Total: $4820 It could be less if you stayed in budget hotels and planned your excursions independently. You're covering a lot of ground so there are a lot of costs for transportation. In Peru, 4-star hotels average about $100/night in Lima and Cuzco and about $200/night by Machu Picchu. In Bolivia, hotels are a lot cheaper. 4-star can be had for about $70. Expect to spend about $30/day on meals, eating well, in Peru and even less in Bolivia. Expenses in Brazil are higher, especially in Iguazu, which is very touristy.
