Which is the best guide book of Italy?
We want to travel all over and see as much as possible but are more interested in practical information, like trains, buses, places to stay and eat etc. Can anyone advise on a good all inclusive guide book?
I always swear by "Let's Go's" guidebooks because they are so frank and up-to-date. I also like Rick Steves' practical advice, but I love the walking maps and detailed self-guided tours in the DK Eyewitness guides. You need to find the guidebook that "speaks" to you and the way you want to travel and describes the things you expect to see. Plant yourself in the "foreign travel" section of a Barnes & Noble, Borders or Books-a-Million and just spend some time looking through the many guidebook series that are available. Choosing the right guidebook is nearly as important to the success of your trip as choosing which inns you'll spend the night in! And do be sure to spend time in Italy's Süd Tirol region. It is enchanting, and Bozen is a beautiful city. Go on the off-season when the lines to see the Ice Man are at their shortest or even nonexistent.
