Which Spain travel guide is better?
Looking to buy a guide book for Spain. There's several to choose from - Eyewitness, Rough Guide, Lonely Planet, Insight, Fodor's Rick Steves, Michelin, etc. Is there a significant difference between these - is one better than the others? To put this in context, I'm thinking of going to Southern Spain - perhaps spend a few days in Barcelona as well.
None. My advice is do not buy a guide. Get a hotel and get to it, then start asking around and talking to the locals and you will get an idea of what there is to do. Unless you have a specific reason for visiting a place (and then you don't need a guide because you already know!) a guidebook will only have you following its recommendations. Talk to people and you will have a much more "authentic" trip and a much bigger "adventure" than any guidebook can "promise" you. Get out there and do it!
