What are some helpful tips when traveling to Greece?

Our plans are to fly to santorini and stay for three nights, then two in mykonos, two on paros and 2 in Athens. If you can name reasonable hotel rooms, restaruants, guided tours, sites that you have to see and sites that you don't have to see that would be great thank you

My best tip for traveller to Greece is "LEAVE IMMEDIATELY"!!!

have you not seen how dangerous it is there? They are always riots and kidnappings I swear it is like Afghanistan or something which makes sense because "modern Greeks" are not European or any way related to Ancient Greeks they are Middle Easterner crypto-Islams.

Greece is VERY dangerous for foreigners. VERY DANGEROUS.

Greek Island Travel Guide

greek island travel guide"greek island travel guide"

Greece Travel Guide

When it comes to finding the perfect Greece travel destinations no longer should a person restrict themselves to staying at the more well known locations but instead may be they should consider one of the many other islands that make up this beautiful country.A part of ancient history that marks its establishment in 3000B.C, Greece is the icon of various potential civilizations like Cycladic, Mycenaean and Minoan. Not only this much, the most significant part of the Greek Civilization is the establishment of its two city states. Athens, the capital of Greece in 800 B.C and Sparta in 500B.C. Athens is the most visited place of Greece due to some factors besides being the capital. In restaurants. The island of Rhodes can satisfy every gourmet because it produces various products of excellent qualities and the local cuisine is a real delight for the senses. Fresh fishes and a big variety of seafood's, big choice of "mezes" (Mediterranean snacks), meat on grill, mousaka (the famous dish with potatoes, aubergines, cheese and béchamel) are some of the many Rhodian specialties.

Traditionally, enterprising travellers have explored this intimate marine world through "island-hopping", literally jumping from one island to the other, sometimes following a fixed itinerary, sometimes being entirely spontaneous. But, for those who want to visit the islands in style, without having to worry about tickets and schedules, and without having to put up with the limited charms of ferry terminals, shoe-box shaped vessels and a mass transit atmosphere, there is a wonderful alternative.Greek cuisine is an experience no traveler should miss! The hearty Mediterranean cuisine shares many characteristics with Italy and the Middle East. Greek cuisine makes use of olive oil, olives, poultry, fish, cheese, bread, lamb, eggplants and pork. A wide variety of herbs such as basil, mint, garlic and oregano are also used. Deserts that every traveler will enjoy when they travel to Greece are the Baklava pastry filled with nuts and syrup and the yogurts made with honey.

Once you are back in France and heading for Metz, there is a pay motorway, the E25, which gives an easy route to Strasbourg. There are alternative routes which go through Nancy and the St.Die tunnel to Selestat in the Alsace region of France, but we have experienced delays and poor roads while using this route.A spa visit is also a worthwhile addition to any travel guide to Greece. Natural springs, both cold and hot, dot Greece and have spas built around them for therapeutic treatment and just to relax. Another way to enrich your visit is to indulge in Greece's Agro tourism. Tour local products, traditional cuisine, agricultural areas, experience tradition and participate in rural activities.

Rhodes Travel Guide

Your Guide to a Holiday in Greece (the Hellenic Republic)

Greece is possibly one of the most beautiful holiday destinations in the world. The weather is almost uniformly amazing, the ocean is beautiful, the resorts are well run and not too gaudy (well, most of them anyway), and flights are really not that bad. With a little planning, Greece holidays can be one of the best vacations you have ever had. It is fascinating just how so many of the people who take a trip in Greece just keep going back, year after year. It really is that kind of place.

The Weather

Due to its location, the weather in Greece is what most holiday-makers would consider ideal: the summers are warm but not terribly hot and the winters are very mild. The ocean acts as a great insulator and provides very pleasant breezes and the lack of great altitude ensures very little rain. The sun shines most of the time and the temperatures average out at around 25º-30ºC. You are unlikely to find bad weather there, but if you want to check to be sure you can go to sites such as Holiday Weather for more information – you will almost certainly be happy with what you find.

Antiquity

Greece has one of the oldest and most fascinating histories of any country on the planet. While there you should definitely check out some of the impressive world heritage sites. The best idea is to simply order a tour from your hotel or resort, which will take you all the way there where you can harvest all the facts from the mind of your guide.

Where you can visit obviously depends where in Greece you end up. If you have a chance one of the must visit places is Delphi, near Athens, where historical archaeological sites such as Pithia and the Temple of Apollo are just waiting for you to discover them. If you feel like a little more adventurous you could leave the mainland and visit Rhodes, which has some of the most amazing fortresses and historical sites on the planet.

Getting There

There are a number of cheap ways to get to Greece, depending on exactly what you are looking for. You have two major choices: build your own package or use one of the pre-assembled online packages. The latter is almost always the cheapest option unless you are electing for a completely bare-bones package. The former involves visiting cheap airline sites such as ryan-air.com and then booking your accommodation separately. This does offer a lot of customizability and freedom although it often can turn into a major headache, which you really don’t want on your few days of freedom.

The best idea is usually to elect for a package holiday, such as those offered by directline holidays, which will take care of everything for you. The best thing about these kinds of packages is just how easy they are – they are tried, true, and well supported. There will be people you can speak to in English and plenty of activities easily booked. Almost more importantly, the fact that these package holidays are well established usually makes them a lot cheaper than the alternative.

Other

The currency in Greece now is the Euro, which makes your life a lot easier. The Euro hovers at around £0.70 which is nice for you because it makes things a little cheaper. You will never get a rate that good but is should be pretty close. You can also quite easily take your credit/debit card instead of changing all that cash – there are plenty of ATMs and most merchants accept cards. You only really need cash for the myriad small trinket and food stores you will certainly find scattered around.

Restraunts and food in Greece are generally much cheaper than they are back home – particularly if you go a little off the beaten track to find that authentic flavour. There are plenty of review sites available to you online – you just have to go looking.

You really don’t need any shots or any major preparation to visit Greece – it is a very modern country – just make sure you get your travel insurance and you will be fine.

There is little else to say in this short guide – in summary, hunt for good package deals, pack light, take cards, and make sure you wonder off the beaten track a little – you’re sure to have a great time!

Kefalonia Travel Guide

How to survive in Greece with limited Greek

Greece ranks amongst the most popular summer sun destinations for the European visitors. This country, apart from its mild climate, offers ancient history to discover, wonderful landscapes and sparkling blue coastline to explore, and friendly people to socialize with. When on holidays in Greece, whether it is on the mainland or one of the islands like Crete, Rhodes, Corfu or Kefalonia, you will see smiling faces and hear friendly welcome from the local people on daily basis. Sometimes they might even invite you to join in a conversation over a glass of ouzo in the local taverna!

The hotel staff are polite and helpful and the people running shops, bars and restaurants will definitely try to strike a friendly talk with you. Many of them can speak English, however you are bound to come across a few Greeks who will approach you in their own native language. Surely, not everybody who goes on holidays to Greece automatically attends a course of the Greek language. However lovely sounding, Greek may seem a bit more difficult in comparison to other languages because of its different alphabet, so sometimes even trying to read the signs in this country might leave us a bit frustrated.

So how do you survive in Greece with limited or no Greek? First of all, if you find yourself in any kind of emergency, do not panic. Always keep the number of your nearest British Consulate at hand. If you have a medical emergency, your insurance company will also assist and the medical staff in Greek hospitals will know some basic English. Your tour guide or holiday representative are there for you 24/7 to assist you in emergency situations, so feel free to call them if you need them.

You might also want to speak to the locals in Greece whilst in the shops or markets. That's when the pocket dictionaries come handy with their survival language. Make sure you buy one of those before you travel. If you choose to buy a guide book, one section of it is usually dedicated to some basic key phrases in Greek to help you get by. And, if you are more daring, why not try to get one of the audio or video language courses and try to learn some Greek. It may be fun and it will get you very far with the local people who will respect and appreciate your effort. After all, bargain hunting and haggling at the market is much more fun if you use some language apart from miming and using gestures!

When on holidays in Greece and knowing very little or no language, remember, you are never alone. It is always possible to approach passers by to help you out if you get 'lost in translation'. Greeks are used to many tourists visiting their country and will do their best to assist and show their hospitality. No wonder so many people return year after year!

Zante Travel Guide

Zante Islands in Greece - Beaches, Climate, Nature

Zakynthos, in the English term is known as Zante. It is the Ionian Islands' third largest which covers for an area of about 406 kilometers squared. The shape of this island is like an uneven triangle, which the base is formed by Laganas bay, and the peak is formed by the Schinari Cape at the north of the island. Zante, as sometimes called, is located in the southern part of the largest islands in the Ionian Sea. It is particularly washed by the Ionian Sea and is particularly located at the north west of the Peloponnese. As for the island's climate, it has far more better condition than the other Ionian Islands since its average temperature is about 115C in wintertime and 270C in summer.

The island's west coasts are rough and steep with many bays and rocky beaches while on the east side, you can usually find its agricultural production. Due its mild climate and plentiful rainfall in winter, Zakynthos has dense vegetation. The island has principal products like currants, grapes, olive oil and citrus fruit. You can also find wild plants, vines and coniferous trees in the island.

When summer arrives, the sea lily blooms in Zakynthos. The scent is so magnificent that it explains the reason why people have named the island Fioro of Levante meaning, Flower of the East. Moreover, the island is also very rich in fauna. That is why caretta-caretta turtle usually comes in the sandy beaches of Lagana's bay of Gerakas as well as the other beaches to reproduce and hatch its eggs.

Also, the beaches in the island are popular for its crystal clear waters which are shallow and have sandy coasts. That is why beaches here are usually swarmed by tourists.

One of the popular beaches is located near Vassilikos. The beaches here are famed for its crystal waters and golden sands. The place can be found approximately 15 kilometers from Chora, which is the island's capital. The good thing when visiting to Vassilikos is that you can choose the beach of your liking. Yet, if you want to go to a beach where it is still untouched by growing tourism, you can always visit the Sekania and Dafni. To visit the said two untouched islands, you can go to Xirokastelo which is shortly before Vassilikos and follow the road leading there.

Another yet impressive beach can be found for about two kilometers away from chora, is the Laganas Bay. It has an impressive stretch of 9 kilometers sandy beach, fine sand, sand dunes and shallow waters. This bay as well as the neighboring beaches of Kalamaki and Agios Sostis has invited a lot of tourists during the summer. Furthermore, tourists can also visit yet another beautiful beach of Porto Koukla, Arkadanos, Limni Keriou and Tartarouga, which are located at the base of Marathias Cape.

Also, if you are a lover of savage beauty, you can always visit the west side of the island which is the place for magnificent beaches for swimming. When you are in the village of Agios Leon and after walking through its impressive wild landscape, you will most likely see the rocky voes of Limnionas and Roxa. With its cool, deep waters, the natural beauty of the scenery itself is truly majestic.

Moreover, to visit the most beautiful beaches of Greece, go to the beach of Navagio or shipwreck. This beach is known to be the ornament of the island and can be reached by taking a little boat from Porto Vromi.

Zakynthos is really an island full of beautiful beaches. You can always visit the organized beaches of the National Tourism Organization or the EOT and the place called Tsilivi, which is known for its beautiful sandy beach. The island also houses the beaches of Amoudi, Amboula and Alykes.
